Blogger Krys Melo moved to Palm Springs this year and decided to give her new two-bedroom apartment the full Joybird treatment! Step inside this stylish, mid-century abode, brimming with atomic allure and see how to get the look yourself.
Spend just a few moments perusing Krys Melo’s blog or instagram feed and you’ll instantly see why we’re somewhat obsessed with her sense of style. Everything in Krys’ life has a charming retro vibe – from her darling fashion choices to her beautiful home. Somehow Krys manages to create a perfect homage to the atomic age and mid-century design in her decor, while still maintaining a sense of enviable originality.
Drawn to the “mid-century aesthetic and vacation vibes of Palm Springs living,” Krys made the move to her two-bedroom home earlier this year, where she lives with her husband, Javier, and dog, Pandora. With the brightness of the apartment and the open layout, Krys instantly knew how she wanted to design the space. A fan of color, she built a kaleidoscope color palette of teals, pinks, mustard yellow, kelly green, and crisp whites. Loving atomic age fixtures, there are also plenty of sun-burst gold fixtures and wall hangings scattered throughout the space.
Inspired by vintage magazines, films, and her own imagination, Krys has tried to create a space that’s aesthetically pleasing and generates even more inspiration.
“My husband and I both work from home, and spend a lot of time here,” she explains. “So we have to be surrounded by things we like in order to be happy and inspired on a daily basis. We also like people to feel comfortable here when they visit and living in Palm Springs, we get a lot of visitors!”
As the apartment is a rental, Krys is often having to find temporary solutions to design hurdles. One of her go-to design tricks is removable wallpaper, which is employed throughout the space – She even used one of our favorite Tempaper designs in her bathroom!
While Krys first discovered Joybird when searching for a “vintage” sectional, she found that everything from our Unson Media Console, to Hughes Bed, to Xavier Apartment Desk, to our abundant assortment of mid-century-inspired lamps and decor was just what she needed to fill her new, larger space in the design style of her dreams!
