See how Melissa Johnson, CEO and Creative Director of Best Friends for Frosting, used a few Joybird pieces to transform her previously unfurnished living space to a light and airy sanctuary perfect for family gatherings and relaxation.
After three years of house-hunting in Sacramento, California, Melissa Johnson and her husband found the perfect mid-century modern home for their family. The house is an original Carter Sparks design from the 1960s, so when the Johnsons first toured it, they knew they finally found their dream home.
When they first moved in, their living room was huge, bright, and like the rest of the house, had a ton of potential. But, it lacked a lot of the substantial furniture and charm it needed to make it feel homey, so it was generally uninviting. Because of that, their family never spent much time together in the space.
When asked about her previous living room, Melissa said, “It seemed like the living room was in contrast with the rest of the house. We loved every other space in the house so much, but the living room was always missing something.” To find that missing piece, Melissa and her husband, a MCM design buff, turned to their extensive online communities to find inspiration for how to revamp the space.
Many of their friends, colleagues, and fellow mid-century modern design lovers recommended Joybird to them, and once they browsed our website and products, they were hooked. The results from their living redesign completely changed the look and feel of the space.
The finished product has a light, airy, and beachy feel that welcomes you in as soon as you enter the room. The home boasts floor to ceiling windows and has many of the same original features from when it was originally built, so the new pieces needed to allow plenty of the natural light in to fit their overall aesthetic. The furniture they picked out did all of this and more, completely transforming the space.
“My favorite Joybird piece is definitely the Eliot Sofa. Our family of four can all pile on it to spend quality time together,” Melissa said. Their other Joybird pieces, namely the Alva Rug and the Soto Armchair, bring in a relaxing, bohemian vibe while also staying true to the mid-century modern aesthetic that Joybird is known for and the Johnsons enjoy.
Melissa Johnson’s living room redesign is the perfect example of how the right furniture and decor items can make any space truly special. Now, Melissa and her family can celebrate joyful and wholehearted living together in their gorgeous space.
