Is there anything sweeter than nursery room interior design? Doubtful. But before baby moves to a room of her own (or with her siblings) many parents opt to keep their newborn close in the night. Master bedroom bassinettes have been around a very long time for this reason, but we turned to mom-extraordinaire and home-styling expert Courtney Ramsey for insight into selecting additional furniture – both stylish and sweet – for a bedroom nursery nook.
Courtney Ramsey’s home is like a breath of fresh air. A clean white color palette, with soft accents of rose pink and natural woods, run throughout the house, and a gentle mix of vintage furniture, with classically modern details, give the space an inviting charm.
“Older homes and pieces of furniture are my favorite because they have so much character and charm,” Courtney says. “I find inspiration from places we’ve visited, magazines, browsing Pinterest, and following like-minded accounts on Instagram.
The stay-at-home mother of two lives with her husband in Oklahoma City and appears to have figured out how to create a stylish, clean white space even with small children. But she admits that motherhood has had some influence on her design choices.
“Prior to our babies, we had a white couch. But that had to go!” She laughs. “I decorate with lots of baskets to hide baby toys and books, put anything breakable up high, and try not to hold on too tightly to any piece of decor or furniture because with two kids + two dogs you just can’t!”
“Home truly is wherever my family is, but it’s also a cozy space to rest, make memories & enjoy time with the people I love.”
Courtney explains that choosing things that are more functional becomes a necessity with small children and it just makes sense for this season of her life. With her newest baby, Aurora, she wanted to create a space in the bedroom that would look lovely, but also serve as a comfortable area to nurse, read books, and cuddle her baby. This meant investing in a rocking chair or glider and she opted for our own Joybird Nina Glider Chair in Royale Blush (a perfect pink hue against her white walls!)
“I can’t even believe I survived those first few months with Violet (Courtney’s first-born) without one!! It’s such a cozy place to nurse Aurora during those late night hours. And big enough that Violet likes to climb up in it with us to read books,” she says. Her top tip for anyone looking to create their own nursery space is to “splurge for the rocking chair or glider, you won’t regret it!”
Samantha augmented her glider with a matching Brin Cube Ottoman, giving the space a dash of luxury and making it all the easier to lounge. She uses her tried and true tricks of well placed, bohemian baskets to help hide baby supplies and clutter. With a baby and a small toddler, Courtney finds that they spend the majority of their time in the bedroom, and it couldn’t be more cozy and pleasant.
“Our master bedroom has become my favorite place as of late!” Courtney exclaims. We can certainly see why!
