Love it or hate it, Valentine’s day is just around the corner. This year, why not celebrate the love you share with your closest girlfriends and throw a sensational Galentine’s Day party? We brought in event planners extraordinaire, Aubrey and Kenzie of Details Darling, to show us how it’s done!
To say that the sister duo behind Details Darling – a full-scale wedding coordination and design company – is “details oriented” is an understatement. Aubrey, along with her sister and business partner Kenzie, approach every project with a 360-degree view of every aspect on display, from the food to the layout to favors to activities…even the artwork on display is premeditated to ensure a cohesive atmosphere.
Naturally, when we asked them to design a Valentine’s party with the girls we knew they’d put together a perfectly delightful plan, and we weren’t disappointed! Playing off classic romantic films (the ones we all can’t help but love) Aubrey and Kenzie designed a Galentine’s Movie Marathon, complete with drinking games, sweet treats, and a gorgeous layout! We spoke to the sisters about how they approached the project, their inspirations, and tips for creating a similarly fabulous party!
Joybird: What was your inspiration for the Joybird Galentine’s Day Party?
Details, Darling: We wanted to show that Valentine’s doesn’t have to be a sad day if you don’t have a special man in your life. You can easily grab your gals and throw an affordable, cute party in the comfort of your home. We wanted the décor to not come off as cheesy or too themed, but mature and minimal. Although we incorporated the traditional pink, white and red – we tied in a lot of white and gold to tone it down, with a pop of blue for fun! We wanted it to have a sort of Paris-chic feel with clean, modern lines and simple eyelash + lip images. The venue we shot at, Light Lab, was the absolute perfect backdrop for the “living room” lounge vignette.
“Love should always be celebrated!” – Aubrey
Joybird: Do you have any general rules of thumb or a checklist you stick to when planning an event or party?
Details, Darling: We always make sure to figure out what is on the top priority list for our couples or clients. Our general rule of thumb when planning is that we want the day or event to feel authentically and truly about you. We want it to reflect your personality and story.
Joybird: Any particular detail of the party design that you’re particularly proud of?
Details, Darling: We really wanted to play up the movie marathon aspect of the night. Most ladies are obsessed with quotes from romance movies and we thought it would be fun to incorporate those. We created all of the custom signage ourselves at home by purchasing white acrylic pieces and using our Cricut machine. Our favorite quote of all time “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird” from The Notebook seemed fitting since we were partnering with Joybird and who doesn’t love The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks?
When it came to selecting Joybird pieces for the space, Aubrey and Kenzie had a clear sense of what they wanted and what was needed to create a cozy, comfortable layout ideal for gabbing with the girls and enjoying hours of those romantic movie moments!
Joybird: How did the Joybird furniture affect your design and planning?
Details, Darling: The Joybird furniture gave us our initial vision for design. The inspiration for the shoot was centered around that gorgeous light pink, velvet couch – It wouldn’t be complete without it! We wanted to tie in the wood round coffee table to give it more of a “homey” vibe. And you clearly can’t forget the gold and marble bar cart… No Galentine’s party is complete without a wine and cookie set up.
Joybird: If you could give just one crucial tip for anyone planning their own Galentine’s party (or really any party) what would it be?
Details, Darling: Pay attention to the details, darling! Do your best to keep everything as close to the theme and color scheme as possible. Think about who you’re entertaining and chose food, beverages, and décor options that best fit their taste and personality.
From her styling of our Felix Bar Cart with rosé and adorable heart sugar cookies, to her delectable spread on the Hudson Coffee Table, we are simply smitten with this gorgeous design! You have to admit, it’s pretty easy to love!
Thank you, Aubrey and Kenzie, for lending your expertise to this event and shout out to Shindig Chic for their beautiful floral designs. We wish everyone plenty of love this Valentine’s Day!
