Interior designer Rima Nasser loves designing challenging spaces and helping her clients achieve their ultimate vision for their home. But how does she translate those skills into her own home decor? Take a closer look at her beautiful Mid-century Modern haven, brimming with interesting angles and rich colors.
When Rima and her husband first saw their would-be home in 2016, they were immediately drawn its unique architecture and its easy-flowing floor plan. While the home was built in the 1980s, it takes its architectural-style from classic mid-century modern design, complete with plenty of sharp angles, unusually shaped rooms, and unique windows.
“It took some time to get the layouts of every room just right,” Rima explains. “Sometimes, I still think about how to change some of the rooms to make the layout more efficient. That’s what I love so much about this house, it’s a fun challenge and a never-ending project!”
After being in the design industry for about a decade, Rima decided to start her own business to take her work to the next level. As the owner and designer of TEW Design Studio, Rima has styled for just about every preference and every type of home – everything from Boho-chic to classical. She enjoys mixing bold colors and patterns, as well as incorporating unique pieces, especially vintage items, into her designs.
“A lot of my inspiration also comes from observing my family and friends over the years and how they interact in the spaces of their homes. I’m always learning and understanding what each room can mean to a person and how best to suit those needs.” -Rima
In her own space, Rima takes inspiration from her travels and her love of art. As an avid traveler and amateur painter, Rima’s home is filled with pieces she’s collected from all over the world, as well as her own paintings. This eclectic mix of artwork adds to the rich color scheme she’s curated. Every room brings in another bold color and unique patterns are dotted throughout the space. The living room is punctuated by a luxurious teal shade seen in our Serena Sectional in Royale Peacock. While the bedroom mixes in hot-pink accents like our Chelsea Bench in Key Largo Bubblegum.
The large windows and skylights bring ample natural light into the space, and with plenty of greenery inside and the gorgeous surrounding woodlands, the home maintains a natural, bright and airy feel. Perhaps one of the most stunning rooms (and Rima’s favorite to design) is the sunroom. Rima filled the space with cheery citrus-colored furniture, including our own Eliot Sleeper Sofa in Key Largo Green, to create a warm and welcoming place to enjoy the sunshine. With the wood-paneled walls, a natural wood coffee table, mixed metal accessories and a myriad of plants scattered around the space, the room is a perfect extension of the outdoors!
“Our home is our little haven. It’s where my family gathers to feel safe and relaxed,” Rima says. “It’s a reflection of our lifestyle and where our family will grow and create more memories.” Creating a space that reflects one’s own interests and joys is exactly what makes Rima a great designer, so it’s no surprise that she’s done precisely that in her own colorful and creative home!
