In need of a quick stain fix on your sofa or chairs? These simple DIY cleaning solutions can be quickly whipped together from household products you probably already have on hand and will leave your upholstery naturally clean!
Furniture is meant to be lived with and enjoyed. But a lived-in home often comes with a few spills and stains. It’s natural. Luckily it doesn’t take much to create a simple cleaning solution at home to treat any spots that may have accumulated on your upholstery. The main thing to remember is the type of fabric you’re treating. This will determine the best solution to try. Look for the symbols below on our Joybird fabric guide to see what method is recommended for your fabric of choice. If it’s “W-Approved” use a water-based solution, and if it’s “S-Approved” go for a solvent-based cleaning solution.
Here’s our at-home recipe for a W-Approved solution:
– 3/4 cup warm water
– 1/4 cup white vinegar
– 1/2 tablespoon liquid dish soap
Pour all three ingredients into a spray bottle and shake well to mix.
Here’s the S-Approved solution:
– 1/2 cup alcohol
– 1/2 cup white vinegar
Mix the two together in a spray bottle and give it a good shake.
To apply either solution, just follow four basic steps:
Step 1: Spray stain with correct solution
Step 2: Let sit for a decent length of time to allow the solution to penetrate the fabric fibers
Step 3: Rub the area with a clean soft cloth until the stain lifts
Step 4: Blot the area dry with a clean dry cloth
And voila! You can enjoy your naturally clean furniture!
