When Angie Johnson, the designer behind to popular brand Norwegian Wood, and her husband moved into their first home together in Los Angeles, they saw an opportunity to design the guest room of their dreams. They wanted to experiment with color, texture, and different styles but didn’t necessarily want to commit to a set design. That’s when they discovered that they could have it all.
To get the most out of their guest room, the Johnsons decided to simply shirk conventional and not commit to a particular style or color palette and, instead, change their guest room up. To do this, Angie kept the foundational elements, including the Bryce Bed, to be relatively simple so the textiles she used could shine.
Below are the three designs (plus one bonus design!) she created in her one guest room. We hope this gives you the inspiration you need to take a page out of Angie’s book and shake up your style!
Paradise in Pink
Angie began her design with an ornate piece of wall art that is predominately blush pink. To stay in the theme of creating a foundation, she used cool, neutral bedding and layered on pillows with different textures and colors that complemented the wall art. Like Angie says, “mixing simple modern elements with more feminine details is a great way to create balance in a room.”
With this scheme, Angie again decided to design her space around wall art. This time, the wall decor was a cloth wall hanging with a lot of warm colors throughout. She kept the same bedding but switched out the throw pillows. The most notable ones in this design are ‘70s-inspired with orange and yellow quilting. You can just feel the warmth coming from this design.
Next, Angie wanted to focus on one color, mustard yellow, and use that as the inspiration for her design. “Creating a really tight color palette lets you play with texture and pattern,” Angie said, and we absolutely agree. You can just see the textures playing off of each other. She balanced the design with neutrals like cool whites, grays, and blacks. It’s simple and classic.
Bonus Look – Boho Chic
Everyone loves a bonus look! In this one, Angie went with a colorful and cozy design this time around. To achieve this, she used vintage sheets, comfy velvet throw pillows, and fluffy duvet cover to create an inviting scene that’s perfect for a guest room.
