When it comes to mid-century styling, blogger Krys Melo knows what she’s doing. See how she took her beautiful Palm Springs apartment from a mostly white space with filled with smaller furniture pieces from her previous apartment, to a colorful home perfectly in-line with iconic, atomic, Palm Springs style!
Krys Melo is best known for her adorable blog Melodrama, on which she shares peeks into her life, interior styling tips, and her awesome retro sense of style. Recently relocating from busy Beverly Hills to the desert oasis that is Palm Springs, Krys wanted to give her new space a lift with higher-quality furniture and a fresh color palette.
Her previous furniture was comprised of “a lot of IKEA and IKEA hacks mixed with upcycled thrift store finds.” Krys is actually a wiz at taking a basic piece and transforming it into something special. But as she was looking to fill this new space, she realized she needed to take her design a step further. Wanting to own a truly vintage look, she added some of our most mid-century-stunning pieces to her living room and bedroom, broadening the color palette and adding a new degree of sophistication to the space.
In the living room, Krys traded her small, Ikea-hacked sofa for the Joybird Hughes Sectional with Bumper in Notion Thunderbird. She balanced the bright tone of the sofa with our colorfully charming Unson Media Console and switched out her tufted ottoman with our adorably atomic Elmer Coffee Table. The additional wood pieces and larger-scale furniture fill the space in a way that adds a rich warmth previously lacking from the room.
The bedroom is perhaps the most sensational transformation. Krys’ basic bed was replaced with our Hughes Bed in Key Largo Kelly Green, which she then accented with blush pinks and atomic golds. It’s sort of amazing what an impact the right bed can have on a space, but this room is the proof!
In addition to the larger items, Krys also incorporated several Joybird lamps, poofs, and wall hangings to her home. We love how these retro-styled items seamlessly mix with Krys’ own vintage finds. The culmination of it all creates a true mid-century design, perfect for the Palm Springs setting!
