Can you believe summer is almost over? With Labor Day right around the corner, it feels like the weather can change at any time. Labor Day was created to celebrate American workers and give them some time to recharge their batteries. It has since evolved into a day that symbolizes the unofficial end of summer and people are always eager to spend time soaking up the last bits of hot weather.
People celebrate Labor Day in all different ways, but now that the number of hot days we have left is limited, it’s more important than ever to spend time outside. But, if you find yourself going to the same barbeques or pool parties for every warm-weather holiday, don’t be afraid to switch things up.
We’re always thinking of new and exciting ways to put a twist on a classic, so we wanted to propose three unique and fun ways to spend Labor Day. Check them out below!
Ditch the BBQ for a Drive-In Movie Night
Labor Day barbeques are fun and all, but if you want to try something different this year, why not skip the idea altogether for something a little bit more unique? We’re huge movie buffs here at Joybird, and if you are too, we highly recommend setting up a drive-in movie night for you and your friends. All you need is space, a projector (you can get an inexpensive one from Amazon), and a screen, and you’re ready for a night at the theater. If you need inspiration for what movies to watch, read through our list of favorite classic summer movies!
Embrace Your Inner Child
When we were kids, summertime was the highlight of the year. The feeling we got when we heard the bell that symbolized three months of fun-filled freedom is something that can’t be replicated now that we’re adults. This Labor Day, however, try to tap into that same sense of unbridled joy and use your day off as a chance to be a kid again. When you wake up, resist the urge to be responsible and, instead, eat cereal, watch cartoons, and spend all day outside with your friends until it’s time for dinner (which you will, unfortunately, have to cook for yourself). It may feel a little weird at first, but we guarantee that you’ll have the time of your life.
Spend Quality Time with Your Furry Friend
Having a dog at home is one of the best privileges in the world. But, during the workweek, it’s easy to spend less time with them as you’d like. But, now that you have a day off, clear your schedule and spend all day with your favorite quadruped. Use this time to fit in everything you love doing with your dog like taking them to a park, scheduling a playdate with their furry friends, or even taking a longer than usual walk. No matter what, you’ll both have an amazing day because you’ll be spending time with your best buddy.
