When our Senior Experience Designer, Alan, moved into his new apartment he knew he wanted to give it the Joybird treatment. He wanted to take his blank, white living room and give it life through natural touches and gentle pops of color. See how he created his own little urban oasis…
Alan’s one-bedroom apartment is situated in a hip neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles. While the location may be vibrant and exciting, Alan’s apartment felt a little bland. With literally a blank white space to work with, Alan decided to bring in furniture and decor that lends style and dimension to an otherwise boring living room.
“I’m a big fan of different textures,” Alan explains. “So I tried to incorporate that into different pieces. It was a something of a challenge to determine if the different materials and textures would actually work together. If we had too many, it would make the room look busy, but if it was too similar the furniture would seem really flat.”
In contrast to his urban surroundings, Alan brought in several natural elements to the space, like our natural wood Hudson Coffee Table and our cowhide Zula Rug. He complemented this look with a smattering of succulents and plant life to really emphasize the calm, nature-inspired aesthetic he was craving.
With minimal space, it was crucial that his design be as clean and uncluttered as possible. He opted for a modern look with our Lenox Corner Sectional, and paired it with a classic Soto Chair in Lucky Divine. The mix of wood and metal legs creates a cool natural-meets-modern vibe we simply adore!
“I wanted to have the ability to entertain lots of guests, even though our living room isn’t very big. The corner sectional was the perfect solution to create lots of seating in this minimal space,” Alan said.
Wanting to maintain a streamlined look, with clean lines but a warm feel, Alan selected the Butler Tall Media Console for his media needs, which adds just the right amount of height to the room. He completed the space by adding colorful, modern oil paintings from Artfinder to the walls, breaking up the whiteness of the room.
What started as a basic apartment living room, has transformed into a modern oasis, ideal for relaxing after a long day at the Joybird offices!
